If a picture is worth a thousand words, what’s an augmented reality experience worth?

Legions of young readers can now to find out, with the publication of bestselling and award –winning author Tony DiTerlizzi’s “The Search for Wondla.”  Total Immersion, the global leader in augmented reality, has teamed with Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers and DiTerlizzi to create fantastical extra digital content for DiTerlizzi’s new series, the first book of which is also called “The Search for Wondla” and was published on Sept. 21 (http://wondla.com/wondla-vision.html/).

This marks the first time that Simon & Schuster Children’s Publishing has used augmented reality in a novel, and the first time that Total Immersion has deployed its technology in both a novel and the book’s associated marketing campaign.   In The Search for WondLa, all the reader needs to trigger the AR experience is a webcam, enabling him/her to access the hidden features in the book through three pages of illustrations – the key to unlock the sights and sounds of the main character’s journey, via an interactive map.

In The Search for WondLa, DiTerlizzi and Total Immersion leverage the storytelling strength of AR to create a holistically immersive experience for readers, fashioning several scenarios where AR is available within the book.  By embedding AR in the work, the author’s words and illustrations are enhanced, palpably altering the experience – and offering something unique to every reader.   The AR builds as the reader goes deeper into the story.

Adidas ARvertising campaign


adidas Originals is launching the first Augmented Reality experience in footwear. The adidas Originals AR Game Pack is a set of 5 shoes, each printed with an AR code on the tongue. When you hold the code in front of your webcam, you’ll gain access to a virtual version of the adidas Originals Neighborhood. Each month between February and April, we’ll launch a new interactive game within the Neighborhood and your shoe will be the game controller. The experience launches on February 10th at http://www.adidas.com/originals

Lost Valentinos Augmented Reality Music Video Project

Innovative Sydney band Lost Valentinos and label etcetc have pushed an emerging technology to the very limit by launching the world’s first truly interactive augmented reality music video project.

The project allows fans to record their own customised music videos for the single ‘Nightmoves’ by capturing band members performing the track in the fan’s own world. From lead singer Nik performing the song atop a user’s shoulders, to the whole band playing the song at the base of the Eiffel Tower – it’s a project limited only by the imagination.
