PRESS RELEASE – November 8, 2010 – www.uQR.me has launched the first free social utility designed to share web content out in the real world via a QR.

What’s a QR code?

Strange pixilated squares have been popping up in magazines, outdoor ads and newspapers, but what many people don’t know is that these pixilated squares are called QRs and can graphically reproduce a URL. QRs were once only available to big advertising firms, but now www.uqr.me gives individuals the opportunity to have their own personal QR and manage it which ever way they want, for free.

Check out the uQR.me video to get a better idea of the infinite possibilities available with www.uQR.me:

With uQR.me people can register to get a free personal QR and link it to any photo, video, webpage, Facebook page, Twitter, Flickr, a resume, a “For Sale” sign or anything they desire. uQR.me members have the freedom to print and post their QR anywhere, such as a wall, a tree, a shop window, a t-shirt, a pin, a concert poster, a wine bottle, a business card…literally anywhere. People can “spot” the QR with their cell phones and be automatically directed to that persons or companies online content. This online content could be a video related to what you’re reading, it could be a contest powered by the brand advertised at a bus stop or detailed info about artwork at an exhibition. In short, QR codes link objects in the “real” world to the web, introducing a new dimension to everyday life.

The link to the QR, aka the “QRlink,” can be changed as many times as needed, but the actual QR never changes, which means never having to reprint or repost your QR. The only thing uQR.me members have to do is log onto www.uQR.me and redirect their QR to anything that they want to inform the world of that day. uQR.me offers one FREE QR per user but gives the opportunity of purchasing more QRs via their Business Option.

The Business Option

The business option offers more QRs that are all managed on that individual’s uQR.me page giving any small or big business an easy way to boost its outdoor advertising and get its message heard at a very low cost.

uQR.me is now offering additional free features for the next 5000 members also called “Founder” members.

The “Founders”

The Founders get free stats to see in which region of the world their QR has been spotted, no advertising pop ups and other special features.

  • uQR.me has been used to spread music all over the streets. Any artist can onlinemusic stickerpromote their music by printing and posting their QR where it can be spotted by everyone. Those who spot the QR, can automatically hear the song on their cell phone.
  • Bloggers have used uQR.me by printing and posting their QR at bus stops or coffee shops.
  • Retailers and consultants have linked it to their LinkedIn profile and embedded their QR to their business cards.
  • Real Estate businesses have used the Business Option to sell their homes. With over 50 QRs, they can print the QR to the “For Sale” sign. People can “spot” the QR and instantly get a virtual tour of the interior of the home, including all types of information for that home, including cost, other homes available in that area, square footage etc. without the need of the real estate broker.
  • Some have printed their QRs in trade exhibition invitations which provided the host with opportunities to monitor the guest list attendees through uQR.me stats.
  • Wine distributors are starting to use uQR.me to make their wine stand out from the rest. Wine labels are printed with a QR that is linked to virtual tours of the winery, recipes or a description of the flavor of that wine.
  • The possibilities with uQR.me are endless.

Total Immersion created a five-minute augmented reality presentation for Bill Chang, EVP of the Business Group of SingTel, to visually illustrate the complex process of business cloud computing in a simple-to-understand manner.   In doing so, they’ve shown us the future of presentations, at least for CEOs and other business rock star positions that can afford the service.  It’s possible weather reporting schools will have an uptick in students as presenters learn how to work the screen.

Who would want to use PowerPoint if you could have augmented reality to amaze your audience?

Total Immersion, Simon & Schuster Children’s Publishin and Tony Diterlizzi Partner to Create Extraordinary Digital Content For ‘The Search For Wondla’

If a picture is worth a thousand words, what’s an augmented reality experience worth?

Legions of young readers can now to find out, with the publication of bestselling and award –winning author Tony DiTerlizzi’s “The Search for Wondla.”  Total Immersion, the global leader in augmented reality, has teamed with Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers and DiTerlizzi to create fantastical extra digital content for DiTerlizzi’s new series, the first book of which is also called “The Search for Wondla” and was published on Sept. 21 (http://wondla.com/wondla-vision.html/).

This marks the first time that Simon & Schuster Children’s Publishing has used augmented reality in a novel, and the first time that Total Immersion has deployed its technology in both a novel and the book’s associated marketing campaign.   In The Search for WondLa, all the reader needs to trigger the AR experience is a webcam, enabling him/her to access the hidden features in the book through three pages of illustrations – the key to unlock the sights and sounds of the main character’s journey, via an interactive map.

In The Search for WondLa, DiTerlizzi and Total Immersion leverage the storytelling strength of AR to create a holistically immersive experience for readers, fashioning several scenarios where AR is available within the book.  By embedding AR in the work, the author’s words and illustrations are enhanced, palpably altering the experience – and offering something unique to every reader.   The AR builds as the reader goes deeper into the story.

Now Available For Free Download

Malaysia Airlines and the air transport IT specialist, SITA, today announced that the airline’s “MHdeals” application, the first app using augmented reality to be launched by an airline, is now available for free download  from the Apple App store.

The handy app allows customers to pick up the best airline deals from nearby airports and is the first in which an airline has exploited augmented reality commercially as a new channel for ticket sales.
MHdeals uses the GPS on the iPhone to determine the user’s location and then displays the nearest airports from which they can access great deals. By simply holding the phone in front of them, the user can identify surrounding airports and select one to view the latest flight offers. At a touch of a button passengers can then book their flights through the MHmobile which SITA Lab developed and launched for Malaysia Airlines last year.

The availability of MHdeals in the Apple App store follows the hugely successful launch in June of the iPad MHkiosks – another world’s first for Malaysia Airlines. These unique kiosks are also easy to use and, like MHdeals, make booking with Malaysia as simple as ABC.

Watch demos of MHdeals and the iPad MHkiosks.

Executive Quotes:

Malaysia Airlines’ Managing Director/CEO, Tengku Dato’ Azmil Zahruddin, said: “We have had a lot of interest from our customers since we announced that MHdeals was coming. Now they can experience for themselves the world’s most technologically-advanced and entertaining way of picking and booking a great value flight.”

Jim Peters, SITA Chief Technology Officer who heads up the SITA Lab facility which worked with Malaysia Airlines on developing the application, said: “Augmented Reality applications are new and still experimental, and trying out new ways to interact with customers and to provide functionality in a consumer-friendly way is part of the process.

“Working together, SITA and Malaysia Airlines have the opportunity to keep ahead of the curve as the technology of smartphones and data in “the cloud” rapidly evolves. In this case, MHdeals also provides Malaysia Airlines’ customers the ability to choose a destination and book flights in a fun and interactive way” he added.

Atomic Greetings Revolutionizes Greeting Card Industry

Greeting Cards with Personalized Video.

Philadelphia, PA – July, 2010 – In today’s wired and connected world the ubiquitous greeting card is still a thoughtful, tangible connection that we share with the people in our lives. Greeting cards have evolved over the past few decades from their “simple” paper and ink origins to today’s technical wonders with metallic foils, 3D panels, and music-playing chips.

Atomic Greetings takes the centuries-old greeting card into the 21st century by allowing people to attach personal video and audio messages to their greeting cards. The patent-pending system uses easily mailed paper greeting cards along with the Atomic Greetings web site to allow millions of people to send their uniquely personal video messages inside the greeting card. This system, called EVX(TM), uses augmented reality and other technologies to record and playback video using the Atomic Greetings cards and a webcam-enabled, Internet-connected computer.

These revolutionary greeting cards were created in response to the simple fact that even in today’s digital age, people still love the personal and private nature of a real greeting card. Everyone has a treasured greeting card stowed away somewhere – we cherish the memories captured in that very special card. With Atomic Greetings, these memories don’t have to rely on words alone. Now they can be captured in video and revisited for years to come.

Using your webcam, Atomic Greetings allows people to use video to communicate the full breadth of their feelings. They can simply say “I Love You,” or they can sing or even dance for the card’s recipient. Video allows people to communicate a range of emotions that are impossible with just the printed word. Birth announcements no longer hold only the stats of the baby but can actually show the child cooing and being lovingly held in Mom’s arms. A Thank You card can now be easily sent as you tell the person how grateful you are for their gift or actions. No more hunting for the perfect thing to write, you just say it and people see on your face how you truly feel – just like in real life.

To learn more about Atomic Greetings’ EVX-powered greeting cards go to the company web site at www.atomicgreetings.com.

Context sensitive product visualization on mobile devices is one, next big step for augmented reality. By integrating products directly into the customer’s environment on a smartphone, the shopping experience will become even more convenient and direct. You can see the final usage setting and make a more confident buying decision. And you know what? Vanija, our Swiss partner has finally done this important step together with their customer Möbel-Pfister Ltd and created the App “Atelier Pfister” for their new Swiss Design Collection! The iPhone App, which was created together with Visualcontext Designer Alain Leclerc von Bonin, the programmers Adrian Nägeli & Reto Senn, Bitforge AG and which contains parts of metaio’s augmented reality software, lets users integrate virtual furniture into their own living environment. You take a picture with your smartphone, integrate, combine and arrange the design pieces – and when you like what you see (because it fits well) – you buy what you see. Do you like what you read?
