PRESS RELEASE – November 8, 2010 – www.uQR.me has launched the first free social utility designed to share web content out in the real world via a QR.

What’s a QR code?

Strange pixilated squares have been popping up in magazines, outdoor ads and newspapers, but what many people don’t know is that these pixilated squares are called QRs and can graphically reproduce a URL. QRs were once only available to big advertising firms, but now www.uqr.me gives individuals the opportunity to have their own personal QR and manage it which ever way they want, for free.

Check out the uQR.me video to get a better idea of the infinite possibilities available with www.uQR.me:

With uQR.me people can register to get a free personal QR and link it to any photo, video, webpage, Facebook page, Twitter, Flickr, a resume, a “For Sale” sign or anything they desire. uQR.me members have the freedom to print and post their QR anywhere, such as a wall, a tree, a shop window, a t-shirt, a pin, a concert poster, a wine bottle, a business card…literally anywhere. People can “spot” the QR with their cell phones and be automatically directed to that persons or companies online content. This online content could be a video related to what you’re reading, it could be a contest powered by the brand advertised at a bus stop or detailed info about artwork at an exhibition. In short, QR codes link objects in the “real” world to the web, introducing a new dimension to everyday life.

The link to the QR, aka the “QRlink,” can be changed as many times as needed, but the actual QR never changes, which means never having to reprint or repost your QR. The only thing uQR.me members have to do is log onto www.uQR.me and redirect their QR to anything that they want to inform the world of that day. uQR.me offers one FREE QR per user but gives the opportunity of purchasing more QRs via their Business Option.

The Business Option

The business option offers more QRs that are all managed on that individual’s uQR.me page giving any small or big business an easy way to boost its outdoor advertising and get its message heard at a very low cost.

uQR.me is now offering additional free features for the next 5000 members also called “Founder” members.

The “Founders”

The Founders get free stats to see in which region of the world their QR has been spotted, no advertising pop ups and other special features.

  • uQR.me has been used to spread music all over the streets. Any artist can onlinemusic stickerpromote their music by printing and posting their QR where it can be spotted by everyone. Those who spot the QR, can automatically hear the song on their cell phone.
  • Bloggers have used uQR.me by printing and posting their QR at bus stops or coffee shops.
  • Retailers and consultants have linked it to their LinkedIn profile and embedded their QR to their business cards.
  • Real Estate businesses have used the Business Option to sell their homes. With over 50 QRs, they can print the QR to the “For Sale” sign. People can “spot” the QR and instantly get a virtual tour of the interior of the home, including all types of information for that home, including cost, other homes available in that area, square footage etc. without the need of the real estate broker.
  • Some have printed their QRs in trade exhibition invitations which provided the host with opportunities to monitor the guest list attendees through uQR.me stats.
  • Wine distributors are starting to use uQR.me to make their wine stand out from the rest. Wine labels are printed with a QR that is linked to virtual tours of the winery, recipes or a description of the flavor of that wine.
  • The possibilities with uQR.me are endless.

Rich features of Junaio cause rush in developer sign-up

San Francisco/Munich, April 13th, 2010 – The number of registered developers for the mobile augmented reality browser platform junaio has rapidly grown since the announcement of opening up the API four weeks ago and has reached more than 200 until now. With its open API, junaio gives developers and content providers the opportunity to create their own channels with state of the art augmented reality applications.

junaio`s open API allows developers to create their own AR applications with numerous features. It is easy to use and does require only basic knowledge in programming, e.g. XML and server side programming, such as PHP to create state of the art augmented reality applications. The platform experienced a run from developers and can announce over 200 developers – only four weeks after they opened up their API for the public. “We are very pleased with the number of developers. The feedback we receive is that junaio is a great opportunity for developers to create state of the art applications without spending any money”, states Peter Meier, the CTO of metaio, the company behind junaio.

The creative potential of junaio is vast: AR Mashups, multiplayer games or scavenger hunts, interactive, indoor and outdoor exhibitions, tours with animated 3D characters, edutainment right on the spot and location independent gaming. It is up to the developer to challenge his imagination and become as creative as he wants to. Starting is very easy, developers only need to register for an API-key on the website.

Developer contest promises a reward of US$5000

Furthermore metaio wants to directly reward the effort of their developers and thank them with US$ 5000 for the developer who creates the best channel. Everybody registered as a developer and sets up a channel before June 16, 2010 takes part in the competition automatically. The five channels with the most subscribers will be shortlisted. An independent jury with AR- and IT-business experts will then select the winner. Among the jury members are Robert Scoble, ReadWriteWeb´s Chris Cameron, Mobile Consultants Christine Perey and Ken Blakeslee, Industrial AR expert, enthusiast and blogger Thomas Carpenter and finally Prof. Dr. Geiger from Duesseldorf University of Applied Sciences Department of Media Mixed Reality and Visualization.

Developers can register on junaio`s website.

junaio @ ARDevCamp in Berlin on 24th April, 2010

Developers who are not sure yet how they can use junaio`s different features should consider joining the Developers camp at the AR DevCamp in Berlin on 24 April 2010. The junaio team will give an insight in what developers can do with the new junaio API in free and moderated coding sessions. In addition, ideas for new channels will be collected together and findings will be taken into consideration in the future developments of junaio. The session will be a good starting point for the developer contest and the chance to win the $5k challenge. metaio is looking forward to a prolific session at ARDev Camp which will take place at Beuth-Hochschule für Technik, Luxemburger Strasse 10, 13353 Berlin. Registration starts at 8 a.m.

Please visit the ARDevCamp page for more information and free registration.

Outstanding feature: indoor usage

One of the most outstanding features of junaio which differentiates it from other AR browsers is its ability to use it not only outdoors but also indoors. This makes it especially interesting for usage in museums, exhibitions and shopping malls where GPS data is not accurate enough: http://www.youtube.com/junaio#p/a/u/1/lULKsnRniO0

Outstanding feature: dynamic reaction

junaio`s dynamical reaction can be illustrated by the example of BART. In San Francisco junaio partners with BART, the Public Transportation Service in the Bay Area. The junaio user can not only find the nearest train station but he can also get the time of the next possible train connection – in realtime at his current location.  http://www.youtube.com/junaio#p/a/u/0/nbAVMrNQhJI

Luckily for Japanese couples, cosmetic giant Shiseido has finally rolled out its Digital Cosmetic Mirrors in Tokyo malls to help speed things up. The machine is able to recommend products for the user’s skin type, while allowing them to view it applied via an augmented reality effect. When all is done, the machine prints out a shopping list along with before and after mugshots to make you spend more money feel good about your selections. Good luck with matching the picture though — the cosmetics aren’t going to apply themselves.
